Christmas in Ottawa’s West End Communities

Christmas is such a magical time of year. The snow has dusted our neighbourhood streets, our lights have been hung, and our homes have been filled with festive décor and the company of those we love the most. And as we check each item off our Christmas wish lists and wrap each gift with precision and care, we share in the joy of being with our families and our closest friends. Here’s a small taste of what’s going on in some of Ottawa’s communities that you and your loved ones can take part in to kick-start your holiday season:

  • Magic of Lights at Wesley Clover Parks: time to pack the car, pour some hot chocolate to-go, blast the Christmas tunes and head on over to Ottawa’s West End where the Magic of Lights at Wesley Clover Parks is bound to take your breath away. This 2km “drive-through” experience is a perfect chance for everyone in your family to get in the Christmas spirit. And with select proceeds from each admission (or carload) going toward the Ottawa Senator’s Foundation, it’s an opportunity to give back to our community and appreciate the million lights that Wesley Clover Parks has to offer you this holiday season.
  • Take in a Christmas show: Step into Klara’s magical dream journey as she experiences the Canadian winter landscape for the first time in Canada’s Ballet Jorgen’s holiday classic “The Nutcracker, A Canadian Tradition. Centrepointe Theatre is playing host to this holiday favourite, and is a great ending to a night out on the town with your family. Suitable for all ages, you and the kids can dress up, sing along, and get wisped away by the beauty that is the ballet.
  • Give back: the holiday season is a wonderful time to give back to those in need within and among our neighbouring communities. As such, we’re very lucky to have a wide variety of opportunities in doing so. Why not register your family with the Ottawa Food Bank and collect non-perishable food items for a family who might not have much this Christmas? Or gather the kids to decorate and fill an old shoebox with items that could help benefit those experiencing homelessness this time of year. And we can’t forget the pets. PetsMart Charities has their adopt a pet program where you can either adopt or make a donation to help save the lives of homeless pets in our community.

With the joy of the holidays come an opportunity for you and your family to spend quality time, make lasting memories, and give back to our neighbours and to those who might need a helping hand. We wish you much health, joy and fortune this Christmas, as well as a safe and memorable New Year!
